Equine military event held at Wellington Riding

More than 350 people have entered a new military equestrian event in Hampshire which features two jumps used during the London 2012 Olympics.

The two-day Forces Equine Games, which includes the Royal Navy Championship, is taking place at Wellington Riding.

Teams from military regiments, the police and fire services from across the UK will compete in events including jumping, dressage and cross country. Supporters of the charity event include dressage gold medallist Carl Hester.

"We appreciated the wonderful support our troops provided at the London Olympics, this is our chance to give something back," he said.

Hester along with other Olympians including Charlotte Dujardin, Richard Davison and John Whitaker, have donated prizes which will be auctioned during the event at the Duke of Wellington's estate in Heckfield, Hook. The charities set to benefit from the event, which finishes on Sunday, include Horseback UK, ABF The Soldiers Charity, the Astro Fund at RAF Akrotiri Saddle Club, and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Equestrian Association.
